Health and Safety Notice
Effective date: 01 October 2025 (Version 1.0)
At Polished by Mrs Hilly, we are committed to providing a safe and hygienic environment for our nail services, whether in our home-based salon or at your home. Our technician is licensed and insured to serve adults aged 16 and over, and we adhere to UK health and safety regulations, including the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH). This notice outlines our safety practices and your responsibilities as a customer.
Our safety practices
- Hygiene: All tools are sterilised before and after each appointment using professional-grade disinfectants. Disposable items (e.g., files, buffers) are used where appropriate and discarded after single use.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE): Our technician uses gloves when removing products and, where necessary, masks to ensure a clean and safe service. Otherwise, clean and sanitised hands will be maintained at all times.
- Workspace cleanliness: Our salon area (in the kitchen of our home) is thoroughly cleaned and sanitised between appointments to maintain a hygienic environment. For home visits, we bring sanitised equipment and follow the same standards.
- Product safety: Nail products (e.g., polishes, removers, gels) are stored and used safely in line with COSHH requirements. We conduct risk assessments to minimise any health risks from hazardous substances. All products used are TPO and HEMA free.
- Training: Our technician is trained in safe nail application techniques and stays updated on best practices.
Customer responsibilities
To ensure a safe experience, please:
- Inform us of any allergies, skin sensitivities, or medical conditions (e.g., eczema, diabetes) before your appointment. We'll advise if a service isn't suitable.
- Follow any care instructions provided post-service to avoid irritation or infection.
- Notify us immediately of any adverse reactions during or after your appointment so we can assist promptly.
Premises access
Our salon is located in a three-story townhouse with stair-only access to the service area (kitchen, at least one flight of stairs). For customers with mobility needs, we offer home visits at no extra charge if within 1 mile of our address (38 Scholars Drive, Stockport, SK3 0BS). For distances over 1 mile, a reasonable travel expense charge will be quoted in advance. Please contact us before booking to discuss accessibility needs, and we'll explore reasonable adjustments per the Equality Act 2010. See our Terms: Bookings, Deposits & Cancellations for details.
Home visits
For appointments at your home, we'll ensure our equipment is sanitised and safe. Please provide a clean, well-lit space for the service. Let us know of any household hazards (e.g., pets, uneven surfaces) in advance.
Emergency procedures
- Allergic reactions or incidents: If you experience discomfort or an adverse reaction during a service, we'll stop immediately, assess, and recommend next steps (e.g., medical advice if needed).
- Safety-related cancellations: If a service cannot proceed safely (e.g., due to undisclosed allergies or unsuitable conditions during a home visit), we may cancel or reschedule. No charge will apply for services not provided, and we'll discuss refunds or rescheduling as appropriate.
- Emergencies: In rare cases (e.g., fire, medical emergency), we'll prioritise your safety and follow standard emergency protocols.
Your rights
This notice does not affect your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 (e.g., services performed with reasonable care and skill) or other laws. See our Terms: Bookings, Deposits & Cancellations for more.
